Mega Man 64 (USA) ROM

Mega Man 64 is a port of Mega Man Legends for the PSX, but super-compressed to fit on an N64 cartridge. Legends was Mega Man's first foray into the world of 3D movement, and for the most part it worked very well. The controls are a little hard to get used to but generally work. The fun part of this game though is blowing your enemies up and searching for treasure, which is the bulk of the game. You can find several upgrades and weapons with different attributes and power levels in the passages below the surface. The story of the game is simplistic for the most part, but near the end it gets much more complicated and interesting. The only real flaw with this game compared to the PSX original is that the sound quality is awful; compressing a CD game to fit on a cartridge, while possible, isn't always the best thing to do. Besides that, this version offers nothing that the PSX version doesn't besides a handy tutorial mode. I'd recommend trying the PSX version instead if you can, but the N64 version is almost as good.

Mega Man 64 is a difficult game to recommend. The highlights of the game include a few interesting characters, going on "digs", and collecting treasure to build new weapons with. The controls for this game are awkward, and the sound/graphics have not aged well at all. If you must play this game, play the psx version (Mega Man Legends). The controls make much more sense on the playstation.
