Rez is a musical rail-shooter developed by SEGA's United Game Artists. One of the prime examples of how sound design and presentation can transfrom a genre. The game is essentially a standard rail-shooter, played almost exactly like Panzer Dragoon 2 as many of Team Andromeda's former members worked on Rez. What makes it so special is that the music builds up as the player progresses and that each type of enemy that the player destroys makes a unique sound that blends with the music giving the player interaction with the soundtrack. The game's vibrant visuals also add to the idea, which mixed with incredible electronic music gives the player a mind blowing experience. Though loved and admired today, the game received little fan fare upon its original release. UGA proved to be ahead of their time as many games today (particularly Indie games) borrow heavily from Rez and use it as inspiration. --- Words do not and can not properly explain the experience.
